Clinical Trials and Beating Cancer

Are you in the Chicago area? Today at noon, the University of Illinois at Chicago is hosting a presentation for the public on getting into clinical trials for cancer treatment.

In The Determined Patient, my coauthor (and wife) Maggie Gellens, MD, and I will be explaining to readers how clinical trials work and how you can use them to better your chances of beating cancer. Sometimes, being in the trial is not necessary: You might be able to get the experimental treatment on your own. Alternatively, you might decide you would rather try to get into the trial even though you will only have perhaps a 50 percent chance of being in the group that receives the active treatment instead of the placebo, which is an inactive treatment. Questions? We're happy to answer them. And here's the link to the details of the event: https://today.uic.edu/events/ui-cancer-center-clinical-trials-open-house
